Community Bat Detector Building

On the 4th of October, a very windy Saturday, we ran our first ever Bat Detector building workshop for a community group.
A group of seven people, mostly from the village of Bawdrip, met in the Parish Hall to build a selection of Griff mics and mini Pipistrelle detectors. As everyone knew each other there was a lovely chatty atmosphere as everyone wrestled to place the tiny components. The undoubted star of the show was Katies black cat that came along to investigate everything!
It turned into a highly successful morning, and everyone left with a working bat detector. Comments from those taking part said “Thank you Somerset Bat Group for a lovely workshop building bat detectors” and “Really enjoyed it thank you so much!!!“
If you know of any other community group that would like to get together to build mega cheap, and highly functional, bat detectors then please do get in touch! somersetbatgroup@gmail.com
We are still looking for a new Secretary and Treasurer
There have been a couple of people asking about the roles of Secretary and Treasurer, but we don’t have any firm commitments yet. Hence the group really needs new folks to step forward to take on these key bat group roles. You can find out all about these important roles here. This is your chance to help your group.
As a bonus, anyone who holds one of the SBG officer posts for a year (or more) automatically becomes a honorary lifetime member of the Bat Group, for free.
If you think you could help, please do email us – somersetbatgroup@gmail.com
