Somerset Bat Landscape Surveys

Starting in 2020 the Somerset Bat group planned to undertake a innovative new type of whole landscape surveys using many low cost ultrasound recorders, and post analysis of sound recordings.

Inspired by the BCT’s British Bat Survey the group planned to use AudioMoth recorders with experimental software that allows triggering of recordings when ultrasound is detected.

The process mirrors the way professional bat surveys use of static recorders.  While the AudioMoth device is not as sensitive as professional equipment is is a fraction of the price, making it ideal for such voluntary bat group use.  However we plan to re-use many of the processes and workflows used by professional consultants.
