Seasonal greetings to all Bat group Members, and wishing you a very batty new year!
The group does not totally hibernate overwinter and members are still busy with hibernation surveys:
Details here.
The
committee will be meeting early in the new year, to sort out next years program so do keep an eye on our
website,
Facebook and emails for details of exciting projects for 2020.
At this close of the year we do also have a couple of updates from the BCT, with the results of the surveys we have undertaken over the year:
National Bat Monitoring Program 2019 update from BCT
“We have updated our online survey summary maps, which give a brief overview of where NBMP surveys were carried out in 2019 (based on data received up to the end of November). The maps will be updated in January to include additional data we have received.
We would like to send a massive thank you to the 747 volunteers who have returned data so far for the NBMP’s summer surveys (Roost Count, Waterway Survey and Field Survey). We would also like to thank the 98 licensed bat workers who monitored a staggering 542 Hibernation Survey sites last winter across the UK and have kindly shared their findings with the NBMP. Without all of your input it would be impossible for us to create robust population trends for the UK’s bats and monitor their changes.
